Overview

Playoffs for the 8U, 10U and Middle School divisions start the week of May 19. The playoff rules and schedules are listed below by age group. There are NO games 5/23-5/26 over Memorial Day weekend. Closing ceremonies will be held on May 31 at Joe Michell.


Closing Ceremonies

Date:       May 31
Time:       Approximately 12 noon, after the Middle School championship game
Location: Joe Michell Field 1

The championship games for 8U, 10U and Middle School will take place in the morning on May 31st at Joe Michell, starting at 9am. All LGSA families are welcome to join us for the final games of the 2014 season. A few minutes after the championship games conclude, LGSA will hold its closing ceremonies for all teams. The league will introduce the players on the SMOKE summer travel ball teams and then distribute the trophies. As each team's name is called, they will parade past the LGSA board to receive participation, second place, or first place trophies. After the ceremony, teams are welcome to use any of the fields for team pictures with their trophies, and please feel free to have your team party or picnic at this time.

Teams should wear their full uniforms to Closing Ceremonies.


8U Playoffs

Rules: The 8U Rules are still in effect for the playoffs and championship game with the following exceptions:

  • Playoffs: No new inning after 75 minutes, finish the current inning
  • Championship: Four innings, no time limit, no run limit in the fourth and subsequent innings

International tie-breaker rules in effect.

Seeding: Seeding for playoffs was assigned randomly.

10U Playoffs

Rules: The 10U Rules are still in effect for the playoffs and championship game with the following exceptions:

  • Playoffs: No drop-dead time limits
  • Championship: Six innings with no time limit and a new pitching week

International tie-breaker rules in effect.


Seeding: Seeding for playoffs will be based on the regular season standings. Standings are calculated by points where Win=2 points, Tie=1 point, Loss=0 points. If two or more teams have the same number of points in the standings, they are resolved in order of head-to-head, runs allowed head-to-head, runs allowed overall, strength of schedule.

International Tie-Breaker

International tie-breaker rules are used when a regulation game ends in a tie. For playoff games, this occurs when the teams are tied after completing the required number of innings or after reaching the time limit for that age group. There is no time limit for championship games.

At the beginning of each team's at-bat, the last batter from the previous inning is placed on second base. This is the last batter, not the last out. For example, the player with the last at-bat in the 7th inning would go to second base at their team's at-bat for the 8th inning. If the number 5 batter is the lead-off batter, the number 4 batter goes to second base. Each batter starts with a zero count (0 balls / 0 strikes).

It is not sudden death. Each team has an opportunity to bat each inning. The game ends when one team is ahead at the end of an inning. If the game is still tied after eight innings, then the last batter from 8th inning is the player on second base at the start of that team's at-bat for the 9th inning, and so on.

Pitching restrictions are lifted during the tie-breaker innings only. The coach can determine who to pitch in the tie-breaker innings and those innings do not count towards that pitcher's limit for the week.
