International Tie-Breaker

International tie-breaker rules are used when a regulation game ends in a tie. For playoff games, this occurs when the teams are tied after completing the required number of innings or after reaching the time limit for that age group. There is no time limit for championship games.

At the beginning of each team's at-bat, the last batter from the previous inning is placed on second base. This is the last batter, not the last out. For example, the player with the last at-bat in the 7th inning would go to second base at their team's at-bat for the 8th inning. If the number 5 batter is the lead-off batter, the number 4 batter goes to second base. Each batter starts with a zero count (0 balls / 0 strikes).

It is not sudden death. Each team has an opportunity to bat each inning. The game ends when one team is ahead at the end of an inning. If the game is still tied after eight innings, then the last batter from 8th inning is the player on second base at the start of that team's at-bat for the 9th inning, and so on.

Pitching restrictions are lifted during the tie-breaker innings only. The coach can determine who to pitch in the tie-breaker innings and those innings do not count towards that pitcher's limit for the week.
