This page describes the age groups that LGSA uses in our Spring Recreational season. Note that in LGSA, "league age" is always the player's age as of January 1st.

No previous experience is necessary to play in our Rec season. Every age group will have players who are new to softball.

T-Ball

Our Tee Ball program is for 5 & 6 year olds and helps young players learn the basic fundamentals of softball. Games will usually be played on the T-Ball field at Joe Michell school, which has shorter 50' base paths instead of the standard 60' base paths used in older age groups.

T-Ball teams are primarily formed by school so that a player is more likely to have friends or familiar faces on her team. The league will try to accommodate requests to place a player with a coach or friend, but we cannot guarantee that all requests will be satisfied.

7 & Under (7U)

The 7U age group builds on the skills that girls learned in T-Ball while transitioning to a larger field with player pitching and junior umpires. In 7U, players do not use a batting tee during games and they can strike out on player pitches and coach pitches. No score is kept and 7U teams do not have playoffs.

If space is available, a limited number of 6 year old players (age as of Jan 1) may be allowed to play in 7U. These players must have one year of softball/baseball experience and attend an evaluation. All 6 year old players must initially register in T-Ball.

8 & Under (8U)

Players and coaches pitch in 8U. As in 7U, players do not use a batting tee during games and they can strike out on player pitches and coach pitches. No score is kept for most of the season, but there are playoffs in 8U.

8U teams are formed by an open draft. All players must attend an evaluation where the coaches evaluate the players, then the coaches meet to draft their teams. As a result, we cannot accommodate requests to place a player with a coach or friend.

9 & Under (9U)

Only players pitch in 9U -- there is no coach pitch. Score is kept for all regular season games and playoffs determine the champion.

10 & Under (10U)

Score is kept for all regular season games and playoffs determine the champion.

Middle School (MS)

Score is kept for all regular season games and playoffs determine the champion.

Seniors

LGSA's "Seniors" division provides an opportunity for girls in high school to continue playing recreational softball. No previous softball experience is necessary.

The Seniors game schedule normally starts a little later than the younger LGSA age groups because we wait until after the high schools have completed tryouts for their softball teams.

LGSA's Seniors teams participate in Pleasanton Girls Softball League (PGSL) and therefore games will be played in both Livermore and Pleasanton.

Visit http://www.PGSLSeniors.com for more information about the Seniors division and contact info@LivermoreGirlsSoftball.org if you have any questions.
